I\u2019ve done this over and over again. Let me explain.<\/p>\n<p>Agents frequently ask me, \u201chow do I get to be the first agent that shows up on a Google search?\u201d My answer is: \u201cYou\u2019re asking the wrong question\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The question should be, \u201cwhat can I get to the top of Google\u2019s search results <strong>for<\/strong>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve ever searched Google for something super generic, like \u201cVancouver real estate,\u201d you&#8217;ll see tens of millions of results. Straight from the source, <i>\u201cabout 24,300,000 results\u201d<\/i> said Google, as I was writing this post.<\/p>\n<p>If you had ever hoped to have your name at the top of such a wildly overpopulated search term, please\u2026keep reading. I\u2019m aiming to change your mind with a new thought process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As a Realtor, if you want to show up on Google for a search term other than your name, target something narrow.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>That means targeting your website toward a geographic zone such as an MLS sub area or neighbourhood, or targeting a niche like a buyer demographic or property type. Target something specific that people search for, but something that isn\u2019t generic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are the ten steps involved in creating a real estate website that will climb to the top of Google:<\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.ubertor.com\/2017\/03\/21\/websites-serve-better-when-they-serve-less-step-1-of-10-how-to-create-a-real-estate-neighbourhood-website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#1 DETERMINE YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE.<\/a> Think outside the box. Squelch the urge to have your website be generic, or be everything to everybody.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&gt;&gt; This is just a quick mindset adjustment of understanding the process and benefits of having a \u201cniche\u201d website.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.ubertor.com\/2017\/03\/21\/how-to-choose-a-website-topic-and-win-the-internet-step-2-of-10-how-to-create-a-farm-area-website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#2 <strong>Decide what search<\/strong><strong> term(s) your audience is using.<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&gt;&gt; Brainstorm. Search Google. Get narrow. Check out the competition. Pick something.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.ubertor.com\/2017\/03\/21\/why-your-website-needs-an-automatic-data-feed-of-new-listings-step-3-of-10-how-to-create-a-real-estate-niche-website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>#3 Ensure that you can get the data feed of listings for that specific target.<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n<p>&gt;&gt; Look for a real estate website provider whose data links up to your real estate board. The best case scenario for that is a company whose sites and data have the ability to create pages with specific search results.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>#4 Search for (and buy) a \u201ckeyword\u201d domain.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&gt;&gt; Use a domain name that uses the search term or a keyword you identified in #2. Buy something descriptive that uses the keywords you want your site to target.<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Domains should cost you less than $15 per year. If you\u2019re paying more than that, shop elsewhere.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>#5 Invest some time setting up the website.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&gt;&gt; Invest some time setting up the website. Relevant content, that data feed of available listings (see #3), nice images. Don\u2019t forget to ask website visitors to contact you!<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.ubertor.com\/2017\/03\/21\/how-to-track-website-visitors-on-your-niche-website-step-6-of-10-how-to-create-a-real-estate-farm-area-website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>#6 Enable&nbsp;Google Analytics.<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n<p>&gt;&gt; With this, you can see how many people are visiting your site, and other useful information about your website visitors\u2019 behaviour.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.ubertor.com\/2017\/03\/21\/how-to-optimize-your-farm-area-website-so-that-it-tops-search-rankings-step-7-of-10-how-to-create-a-real-estate-niche-website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>#7 Do a little bit of Search Engine Optimization.<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n<p>&gt;&gt; Don\u2019t be afraid, this isn\u2019t actually hard, but you just have to do \u201csomething\u201d rather than \u201cnothing.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.ubertor.com\/2017\/03\/21\/help-search-engines-and-clients-find-your-website-by-using-google-sitemaps-step-8-of-10-how-to-create-a-real-estate-farm-area-website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#8 SUBMIT YOUR GOOGLE SITEMAPS.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&gt;&gt; It\u2019s a one-time process, but absolutely necessary for success.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>#9 Invest some time into weekly website maintenance.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&gt;&gt; Ian Watt likes to say, \u201cif you don\u2019t spend time on your website, neither will anyone else\u201d.
