{"id":14322,"date":"2019-05-15T15:13:06","date_gmt":"2019-05-15T22:13:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.ubertor.com\/?p=14322"},"modified":"2022-08-23T16:28:57","modified_gmt":"2022-08-23T23:28:57","slug":"reca-has-updated-its-advertising-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ubertor.com\/blog\/2019\/05\/15\/reca-has-updated-its-advertising-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"RECA Has Updated Its Advertising Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>How do the changes affect my website?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Real Estate Council Alberta (RECA) has made some recent updates to their advertising guidelines. The Council has made some important clarifications regarding the placements of brokerage name on advertisements to ensure that consumers will not be misled. These changes will take effect on <strong>October 1, 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The guideline changes are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>\u201cclearly indicated\u201d means: the brokerage name must be similar in size or larger than other identifiers, and immediately adjacent to other identifiers in advertising.<\/li><li>RECA has an existing requirement that industry must \u201ctrade in real estate\/deal in mortgages only in the name that appears on that individual\u2019s license\u201d. As it relates to \u201cteam\u201d advertising, Council expanded this requirement to include \u201cthe name of at least one licensed team member, as it appears on the individual\u2019s license, must appear in any team advertising.\u201d<\/li><li>Council has prohibited specific words and terms that may suggest to consumers, or create the impression, the team is a brokerage.<ul><li>The prohibited terms include: Agency, Associates, Brokerage, Brokers, Company, Corporation, Corp., Inc., Ltd., LLC, LLP, Mortgage,* Properties, Property, Realty,* Mortgages,* Real Estate*<\/li><li>*Exceptions: \u201cMortgages,\u201d \u201cMortgage,\u201d \u201cReal Estate,\u201d and \u201cRealty\u201d may be used in team names only when followed immediately by one of two terms;
