You serve multiple client demands, you struggle in the ever shifting market, you stress to find new leads to sell your listings. But as any experienced agent or broker knows, real estate can also be incredibly rewarding. That’s why this Thanksgiving, we thought we’d share this list of reasons to be thankful you’re in real estate!

Real estate is meaningful. Home is one of the most important anchors for a person’s life, security, and sense of self. Plus, homeownership is one of the pillars of any person’s dream. And you get to help make it happen.

You get to meet a lot of people from all walks of life. Everyone needs a place to call home. When you work as a real estate agent, you get the opportunity to help people of all ages, races, backgrounds, and family situations achieve that goal. What a wonderful way to make life richer.

Real estate lets you connect with your community. Whether it’s the geographic distance you cover, partnerships with local businesses to market yourself, or the chance to be a meaningful part of your clients’ lives, real estate is full of opportunities to get to know your community and put down deeper roots.

It’s flexible. Ninety percent of real estate agents are self-employed. That means you may have to take a call from a worried seller at 8 p.m., but it also means you can take an hour in the middle of the day to explore your community or attend your child’s school events. Plus, you can work from pretty much anywhere!

Limitless possibilities. Thanks to your self-employment status and the size of the real estate market, there’s virtually boundless opportunity to fulfill your ambitions. Treat your work as a business (not just a series of transactions) to have the strongest shot at success.

It’s fun. Whether you’re attending a party at a conference, touring an incredible property, hosting a cool client event, or handing over house keys to a happy buyer, real estate is full of fun moments. Most of the agents we know wouldn’t trade it for anything.

You have incredible tools at your disposal. Real estate is in a period of unprecedented innovation and tech investment. Many of the resulting tools can make your business more efficient and successful. Who doesn’t want to earn just as much in less time?

You’re a witness to history. In addition to the explosion of innovation, the real estate industry is going through a period of historic challenges. That sounds negative, but it’s actually a chance to learn lessons that aren’t accessible at other times. Plus, think of the stories you can tell after weathering the market of the last 10 years!

Your colleagues are amazing. Does real estate have its bad apples? Sure. But the good ones are some of the hardest-working, smartest, most caring folks out there. You can be proud to share the marketplace with them!

—
Got your own reasons you’re thankful to be in real estate?
