It allows people to not only see and hear you, but it lets them feel your enthusiasm and excitement for whatever it is that you are talking about.  That is why I think testimonials are done best on video.  Take the time to catch up with your clients and shoot a video testimonial (ideally right when you complete a transaction with them).  It is a fantastic way for your past clients to speak directly to your potential clients.
